Small Corked Container

by Emma Johnson.

A small porcelain storage container, created as part of the Interchangeable Mould Project. Can be used as a caddy for tea or a storage jar for other things such as coffee. Comes with cork.

Size: D10 x H10cm.

Materials: Stained porcelain with transparent glaze. Unglazed base. Cork.

Dishwasher safe (except for the cork parts), although hand washing is recommended.

Emma designs and creates handmade ceramics in her Brighton studio, specifically focusing on slipcasting in porcelain. Her functional homewares are often based around architecture, incorporating precise, angular forms and a degree of buildability into the pieces.

This project explores a creative approach to mould-made ceramics by using different combinations of a limited number of shapes and forms to create a variety of different final pieces. Developing on past project themes including buildability, collage, changeability, stackable forms, and combinations of material types, including use of both pre-existing components such as cork, and newly created components such as wooden dowel. Each piece is stamped with a number code on the base which describes the mould parts used to create the form.
